It presents the following issues: the relationship between internationalisation and globalisation; major characteristics of the internationalisation of higher education; a comparison between China and Japan; and the results of globalisation based on case studies from the two countries. The article concludes that globalisation has led to changes in the internationalisation of higher education in China and Japan, but not changed the most essential part of internationalisation of higher education in either country.
