HTR- fuel elements containing various amounts and types of defect particles were irradiated in three in-pile experiments in order to test two methods for the identification of fuel elements with enhanced fission gas release. With the fission gas annealing method by measuring the initial burst, fuel elements with 1 % defect particles could be identified within less than three minutes measuring time. The nondestructive gammaspectrometric method rendered possible the detection of Cs137 diffused into the fuel free zone of the fuel spheres, however, measuring times of more than one hour were required. From the distribution of the fission products Sr89 and 90, Zr95, J131, Cs134 and 137 and Ba140 in the fuel free zones and the realease out of the fuel. elements the transport behaviour could be interpreted depending upon the amount and type of defect particles and the irradiation temperature. |
