The energy release between saddle point and scission point has been maximized using the liquid drop model and taking into account the mass dependence of the deformability of the fission fragments. The leading terms that determine the charge distribution depend on the Coulomb and the asymmetry energy of the scission conflguration. The deformability of ehe fragments shows dependence from nuclear structure. A term proportional to the difference of the deformation energies of the two fragments gives rise to a strong influence from this nuclear structure effect. In the reglon of closed shells the difference in the deformation energies is much the same as the total deformation energy. A tetm comparable to ehe Coulomb energy term has to be taken into account in these mass regions. The calculated $Z_{p}$-values have been compared to experimental results for $U^{235}$. Calculated $Z_{p}$-values for $Cf^{252}$ are given. | ||
