Pulsed measurements at a heavily reflected critical facility are described (Incore-Thermionic-facility-I TR). Special features of this facility are : 1) The use of Zirconiumhydrid as a moderator; 2) Berylliummetal as reflector material. Subcriticality is achieved either by removing fuel elements from the core and their substitution by A1-Dununies (reflector unchanged) or by moving parts of the reflector (core unchanged). Especially the last approach results in rather unsymmetricalconfigurations combined with the exitation of higher modes. The reactivity determination in such cases is apparently influenced by "kinetic distortion". lt is shown that the application of the Sjöstrand-area ratio method gives the best results, as compared with calculations and/or measurements performed with the method of "Inverse kinetics". lt is also shown that especially for unsymmetric cases counters capable to suppress the thermal neutron energy region give better agreement with the results of other methods. |
