Site-specific proteolytic processing is an irreversible post-translationalprotein modification with essential regulatory functions. Dedicated methods enable proteome-wide characterization of differentiallyprocessed proteoforms based on their distinct protease-generated N termini. Exemplary profiling of murine glomeruli revealed processedforms of proteins with important functions in the renal filtration barrier. Altered processing was observed in cellular and animal models of glomerular disease. |
