The quality of SPECT quantification depends on attenuation and scatter correction methods. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the influences of different correction techniques on the quantitative information of SPECT images. The results of a literature search are discussed giving an overview of the state-of-the-art of quantitative SPECr. Phantom measurements with a 3-Head SPECT camera TRIAD88 (TRIONIX, Ohio) were made and simulations were performed to evaluate existing, improved, and our own newly developed scatter correction methods. Another important part of this work was the development and validation of the SPECT-simulation program by using software, GEANT, from CERN. This program allows one to test and improve existing correction algorithms and to include new approaches. Finally, the results are evaluated and an outIook of possible applications and future extension of the pro gram is discussed. |
