520 | |a Several passive safety systems for a new innovative boiling water reactor (BWR) are investigated experimentally and analytically within the framework of the European research programme "European BWR R&D Cluster for Innovative Passive Safety Systems". One of these passive safety systems is the building condenser (BC) which is foreseen for the passive decay heat removal from the containment of the new SWR 1000 reactor designed by Siemens AG. The experimental investigation of the effectiveness of this building condenser will be carried out at the NOKO test facility. The NOKO test facility was constructed at the Institute for Safety Research andReactor Technology of Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH (FZJ) within the framework of a joint project with Siemens AG and with financial support from the Federal Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Technology (BMBF) and several German utilities. This test facility with a nominal power of P$_{max}$= 4.0 MW, an operation pressure of P$_{op}$ = 7.2 MPa and a high flexibility is one of the largest German thermalhydraulic test facilities. It was specially designed for the investigation of the effectiveness of passive safety systems and components. For the above-mentioned experimental investigation of the effectiveness of the building condenser, the NOKO test facility had to be modified. These modifications and a detailed description of the modified test facility are summarised in this report. | ||
