520 | |a This work deals with the electromagnetic interaction in relativistic heavy ion and proton-proton collisions. The underlying theory is based on the equivalent photonapproximation (EPA). This approach describes the electromagnetic fields of fast moving charges as quasi real photons. The assumptions for this model are welljustified in relativistic particle collisions at high energy colliders. Therefore the EPA is one of the basic tools for the theoretical descriptions of these collisions. In this thesis we develop two different approaches for the EPA. The semiclassical ansatz of the EPA leads to an impact parameter dependent expression for the equivalent photon spectra. This approach is extended to nuclear effects, so that one can take into account contributions rising from the strong interaction of projectile and target. The nuclear effects are studied in the case of the electromagnetic dissociation. A quantummechanical approach to the EPA deduces the equivalent photon spectrafrom quantummechanical transition matrices. Using this general ansatz one can study equivalent pohton spectra due to inelastic processes (projectile excitation). This is discussed using the example of the muon pairproduction in ultrarelativistic proton-proton collisions, where we take into account the $\Delta$-excitation of theproton to calculate the photon spectra. | ||
