A concept is presented that allows the submission of batch jobs to MVS systems over a network by employing an electronic mail system. The basic ideas can be adapted to different batch systems and mailing systems. The concept essentialy offers the possibility to send jobs via a network, e.g. INTERNET by means of SMTP, from especially non-IBM hosts, such as UNIX systems, to the MVS hosts. The RJE protocol - implemented under MVS/XA-JES2 - only relies on standard IBM exits and the IBM functional subsystem to receive job data sets and the address for output transmission as well as to transmit the job output to the specified destination via a mailing system.Since ISO/OSI standardized RJE products are not yet available, this mail-based RJE concept was developed. The intention is not to overcome standards, but to get around until stable standardized RJE products are available. |
