In the first part of this work, various fluidization states and transitions between them were investigated using a 75 mm diameterfluidized bed with a 30° conical base. The results show that the Reynolds Number for a given fluidization state or a transient conditionbetween two fluidization states can be described by the following empirical relation: Re$_{(K)}$ =b$_{(K)}$ $\cdot$ Ar$^{n}$o$^{(K)}$ $\cdot$ (Re$_(p$$_{t)}$$_D$$_{A}$/Re$_{(pt)B}$)$^{n}$1$^{(K)}$ $\cdot$ h$_{B}$ $^{n}$$_{2}$$^{K}$ $\cdot$ d$_{D}$$^{n}$ 3$^{(K)}$ $\cdot$ Inserting the experimental parameters in this equation leads toa set of characteristic curves from which the conditions for static bed, partially fluidized bed, spouting (1), bubbling, spouting (2), hysteresis of spouting (2) and pneumatic transport can be determined. In the, second part of the investigation was concerned with the effects of the different fluidization states on the structure and properties of the deposited pyrocarbon (PyC). Under spouting conditions, the PyC is composed of spherical structural elements consisting of mainly fiber components. With bubbling groups of these spherical elements become enclosed in shells. The development of the shells around the groups of spherical elements is very marked under slugging conditions. |
