The fracture mechanical concepts of K$_{IC}$ and J-integral were applied to a coarse-grained reactor graphite. For comparison,additional experiments were performed with a fine grained graphite. The fracture toughness, as well as the critical J-integral-values,proved to be dependent on specimen geometry and preloading. The observed effects can be explained in terms of the structures ofthe two graphites. Additional, information on the fracture mechanism was derived from acoustic emission measurements. |
