As an example for the application of pulse polarography in organic analysis the determination of aromatic nitro compounds is studied, as pulse polarography has already shown to be a very powerful method for inorganic micro and trace determinations due to its high sensitivity, selectivity and precision. The limiting concentrations for which a determination is possible with a certainty of about 50 % are listed as well as the reproducibility of the polarograms at various concentration Ievels. For analytical purposes the recording of derivative pulse polarograms is suggested definitely as preferable. The series of studied substances embraces nitrobenzene, the isomeric nitroanilines, nitrophenols, dinitrobenzenes, dinitrophenols and picric acid and also several conjugated enamines containingan aromatic nitro derivate. Selecting favourable experimental conditions the detection Iimit may go down to 5 X 10$^{-4}$ ppm for many of the compounds mentioned. Also the resolution and the tolerable excess ratios for the simultaneous determination of various nitro compounds have been studied. |
