SINE2020 (www.sine2020.eu, project number 654000) is a consortium of 18 partner institutionsfrom 12 countries. It is funded by the European Union through the H2020 programme with theobjectives of preparing Europe for the unique opportunities at the European Spallation Source (ESS)and developing the innovation potential of neutron Large Scale Facilities. Included within the projectis a work package on data treatment (WP 10), which has carried out work to define guidelines andstandards that should be used to exploit and interface to neutron data (task 10.2). Guidelines werederived initially from a questionnaire to the neutron community. These were later discussed in detailin a presentation at the SINE2020 workshop held at the ILL, April 2017, with feedback receivedleading to the final report that is reproduced here. The report was previously submitted to the EU as project deliverable D10.1. However, to ensure thematerial is both openly available to the community and preserved beyond the end of the project, itwas agreed at the fourth workshop held in Lund, May 2019, that the report should be published as a'RAL Technical Report' with a full author list of those involved in developing the report.
