In the context of future grid planning and grid operation a wide variety of simulation tools is used by the responsible TSOs. In most cases time to solution as well as the number of possible parametrisations is a limiting factor in day to day business. Large scale HPC systems can significantly increase the overall throughput, but existing tools and workflows need to be analysed and adapted on a software, algorithmic and usability level. General lessons learned from a cooperation with TenneT TSO GmbH, Germany, will be presented and potential HPC use cases are discussed. |
