We present a meson-excha.nge model for the hyperon-nucleon ($\textit{$\Lambda$}$ $\textit{N}$ and $\textit{$\Sigma$}$ $\textit{N}$)interaction, which has been constructed according to the same guidelines as thoseused in the Bonn $\textit{NN}$-potential [10]. In contrast to the hyperon-nucleon coordinatespace potentials of the Nijmegen group [6] the model is given in momentum spaceand thus contains the full nonlocality structure predicted in the meson exchangeframework. According to the importance of the $\Delta$-isobar degree of freedom inthe $\textit{NN}$-channel, also in the hyperon nucleon systems we take into account higherorder box-diagrams with the $\Delta$ and the corresponding strange spin-$\frac{3}{2}$ particle $\textit{Y}$*in the intermediate states. The $\textit{NN}$- and $\textit{N $\Delta$}$-vertex parameters (coupling constants and cutoff massesparametrizing the extended vertex structure) are taken from the Bonn-potential.The coupling constants at the strange vertices are determined from $\textit{SU$_{u}$}$ symmetryrelations whereas the corresponding cutoff masses are adjusted to the empiricalhyperon-nucleon data. Effects arising from a) $\Delta$-isobar and $\textit{Y}$* contributions, b)the coulomb interaction and c) the coupling of the two-particle channels $\textit{$\Lambda$}$ $\textit{N}$ and $\textit{$\Sigma$}$ $\textit{N}$ are investigated in detail.Within this model a good fit of the existing $\textit{$\Delta$ N}$ as well as $\textit{$\Sigma$ N}$ data. is achieved. In the scattering observables the coupled channel effect turns out to be of the orderof 10% - 15%. Somewhat larger effects arises from the contributions of the spin-$\frac{3}{2}$baryons. The Coulomb interaction leads to a change in the total cross sections of10% - 20%. |
