The general term of Polarized Neutron Diffraction (PND) refers to a wide range of different scattering techniques utilizing the spin ½ characteristic of the neutron to gain a deeper insight in the magnetic structure of single crystals. These techniques, including the classical Flipping-Ratio (FR) method, the Polarization Analysis (PA) and the Spherical Neutron Polarimetry (SNP) are introduced and their advantages and drawbacks explained. Moreover, scientific applications for each technique are provided and typical polarized neutron instrument components presented. |
